Browser based Twitter tools
April 19, 2009 3AM
I love Twitter. It took me much longer than most to see its good points, but I believe in better late than never
As a keen Twitter follower I went looking for better ways to use the service. And as a fan of statistics, graphs and other things cool, I wanted to see how My Twitter page was doing.
The sites I found are cool. My statistics are terrible
All of the sites I'll link to are browser based services. There are plenty of non-browser Twitter tools to suit all kinds of operating systems or mobile devices. I often use GNOME Do to post to Twitter for example. But how else can you add posts to Twitter if you're not on the Twitter site already?
- Twitterfox—Twitterfox is a Firefox extension that notifies you when a friend updates their Twitter page. You can also update your page using the extension. Of course, only when in Firefox

- TwitThis—Have you ever been reading a web site and thought "I would love to share this page with my friends on Twitter"? With TwitThis you can. You can do it from your bookmarks toolbar and the TwitThis service. There are also ways to incorporate TwitThis into your own web site so your visitors can add your page/s to their Twitter page. I use this service's WordPress plugin on my 47 Guitars web site.
- twitthat—The twitthat service is very similar to the TwitThis service mentioned above. At the moment twitthat is just a bookmark toolbar service though. Still very cool and worth checking out.
- TwitterKeys—All these different ways of entering text into Twitter are great. But what if you want to add that something special to the messages themselves? That's where something like TwitterKeys comes in handy. A cool little bookmark toolbar tool that gives you the ability to copy and paste special characters right into your posts. Very cool.
So you've worked out how to get your messages into Twitter. But how successful are you at it? That's where the Twitter statistic sites comes in handy.
- TwitGraph—TwitGraph provides you with some interesting statistics as well as very informative and colourful pie charts. Want to know what day you post on the most? Ever been interested in the words you use the most? These are some of the statistics you can find here.
- TwitterFriends—Here you can find your Twitter Rank among other things (mine is just terrible
). The list of statistics this site offers is intensive. - Twitter Grader—This is one of my favourite Twitter statistic service providers. The site is slick looking and the statistics are offered in a nicely output format. You get a Tweet Cloud of often used words as well as your Twitter Rank. And if you like your statistics you can add them to your next Twitter post directly from the site

- Retweetrank—If you ReTweet often you may like this next site. See how many people ReTweeted you! Me? … zero.
- Twitalyzer—Twitalyzer provides some great statistics as well as some very in-depth explanations of what each result means. Another of my favourite Twitter services. The main statistics provided are for influence, generosity, signal, velocity and clout.
- TweetStats—This service is one of the ones that takes the longest to generate data. But the wait is worth it. The results are fairly intensive.
- Tweetwasters—If you've made it this far into my list, chances are you're a Twitter fan and have wasted many an hour there. This service will tell you just how much time you have wasted on Twitter

The last site I wanted to mention is great for those people wanting to increase their Twitter friends list. Personally, I love reading about other guitarists and their guitar based discoveries. By searching through the Guitar category at WeFollow I was able to increase the number of guitar based Twitter users I followed. In turn a few more people have discovered me as well.
Oh, this is probably as good a time as any to mention I've added a Twitter icon to the social bookmarking list on each article here at webWICKED. Feel free to Twitter this article
